The Samuel Darby Home (Circa 1907)

In 1905, Samuel Darby purchased property on Cook Avenue for the construction of his new home which would be completed by the Hyde Murphy company in 1907.  Mr. Darby was employed by the Elk Tanning Company of Ridgway, where he held the position of division superintendent.

The architectural style of the home is that of the American Foursquare, which takes advantage of the space available to build upon.  The first floor of this home is made up of 5 rooms and a spacious central hall.  The home boasts the following features:

  • Double parlors with recently restored floors,

  • A beautiful corner fireplace with carvings of acanthus leaves,

  • A dining room with built-in china cabinet,

  • A large stained glass center window on the first floor,

  • A large beveled glass window positioned above the staircase to the second floor, and

  • A wrap around porch.
